ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — A former Tompkins County legislator is concerned about the environment.
Peter Penniman thinks Seneca Meadows should be closed. He says the landfill lacks the ability to handle liquid waste.
“Seneca Meadows has no capacity on site to treat the leachate,” he says. “The resulting affluent ends up in our waterways, and in many of the lakes of New York State.”
Penniman adds Cayuga Lake’s water quality is declining.
In July, county legislators voted not to oppose an expansion project at the landfill.
