MORAVIA, NY (607NewsNow) – A recently retired top administrator is back on the job, only in a different school district.

On July 24, Thomas Turck was named Interim Superintendent of Moravia Schools by the district’s Board of Education.

Turck, who retired July 1 from the Homer Central School District, takes over for Acting Superintendent Connie Galvan. Galvan led the district temporarily after the abrupt departure of former Moravia Superintendent John Birmingham in June. Earlier this month, Birmingham settled with the district for $285,000 plus benefits.

According to the Auburn Citizen, Turck will earn $900 a day while the school board searches for a permanent replacement. He will guide the district through a Corrective Action Plan process with the State Comptroller’s Office in response to noncompliance with state lead testing standards.

The Moravia Central School District hopes to have a permanent superintendent in place by July 1, 2026.
