CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — Cortland County lawmakers are celebrating a legal win about asylum seekers.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Lyle Frank recently dismissed New York City’s petition against the county, saying Cortland County does not have an executive order in place about asylum seekers, and that there had not been any attempts to house migrants in Cortland County.

New York Mayor Eric Adams sued multiple counties across the state over emergency declarations about relocating migrants.

In June, Cortland County Legislature Chairman Kevin Fitch announced it was dropping its state of emergency, which was first issued May 12.
