ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Police departments coast-to-coast are paying more attention to mental health among officers.

Ted Schwartz is the acting chief of the Ithaca Police Department. In a recent appearance on Ithaca’s Morning News, Schwartz noted the importance of making mental health resources available for police officers.

Before stepping down as acting chief of IPD in April, John Joly worked to create an officer wellness program. He talked about those efforts on Ithaca’s Morning News in March.

Joly’s program was supported by City Hall in Ithaca.
