ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Nearly 1.2 million portable device chargers are being recalled for fire and burn hazards.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the A1263 model of the Anker PowerCore 10000 power bank’s lithium-ion batteries can overheat.
The company has received 19 reports of fires and explosions, including 11 for property damage totaling over $60,000, and 2 for minor injuries.
The product was sold online at Anker, Amazon, Newegg, and eBay from June 2016 through December 2022. If you are unsure if your power bank is included in the recall, click here.
Consumers should immediately cease using the A1263 and contact Anker for a free replacement.
The CPSC has provided the following guidance on how to dispose of your device properly.
“Do not throw this recalled lithium-ion battery or device in the trash, in the general recycling stream (e.g., street-level or curbside recycling bins), or in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores. Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of differently than other batteries, because they present a greater risk of fire. Your municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center may accept this recalled lithium-ion battery or device for disposal. Before taking your battery or device to a HHW collection center, contact it ahead of time and ask whether it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. If it does not, contact your municipality for further guidance” – cpsc.gov
