MARATHON, NY (607NewsNow) – A Memorial Day rescue in Marathon.

On May 26, the Marathon Fire Department was dispatched to the Tioughnioga River just north of the village.

Two people had become stranded on the riverbed after their kayaks capsized. The Marathon Fire rescue team deployed its airboat to recover the pair, who were successfully saved.

The Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC) was on standby at the scene. Neither kayaker was injured.
