ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The SPCA of Tompkins County has announced it has been awarded a grant of $68,388 from the New York State Animal Population Control Fund, administered by the ASPCA, to continue its highly successful Spay/Neuter Program.

“I am tremendously excited to announce that the SPCA has received another round of funding for our incredibly successful Spay Neuter Program,” said Jim Bouderau, Executive Director of the SPCA of Tompkins County.

Since 2011, the SPCA has partnered with the NYS Animal Population Control Fund and the ASPCA to offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to income-qualified residents and adopters across New York State. Through this initiative, eligible participants can receive spay or neuter procedures for as little as $10.

“This funding is critical to our ongoing efforts to control the unwanted pet population and specifically targets those who need it most,” Bouderau added. “It is a very important piece of our comprehensive spay/neuter program here at the shelter and allows us to provide pet owners with the vital services they need and promote healthier pet communities.”

For more than 25 years, the SPCA has been a regional leader in affordable spay/neuter services. In the last decade alone, the organization has performed 24,602 surgeries for public clients, in addition to spaying and neutering shelter animals prior to adoption.

“Our clinic is in incredibly high demand, is extremely high quality, easy to use, and is open to everyone whether you need financial assistance or not,” said Bouderau. “We have recently added additional appointment dates in the hopes of meeting demand and bringing down wait times.”
