ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – State Prisons have begun accepting inmate transfers again.

According to Spectrum News, work has begun to clear the backlog of “state-ready” incarcerated individuals housed in county jails, though only a handful will be relocated each week.

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, which administers the state prison and parole system, stopped accepting transfers during the corrections officer strike.

In Tompkins County, Undersheriff Jennifer Olin tells us the jail currently houses 10 individuals who will eventually be transferred, adding that they have not yet received notice from the state about anticipated transfer dates.
