ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Flood walls could become taller in Ithaca.
Officials are considering raising the heights of barriers along Cascadilla, Six Mile, and Fall creeks. Public Works Superintendent Mike Thorne says the city is pursuing funding to help with the cost.
“We’ve applied for three different FEMA grants to fund the final design and construction of flood mitigation measures,” he says. “We’re still waiting to hear about those grant awards.”
Thorne adds the city is “stuck in neutral” because it’s unclear when the grant winners will be announced.
