HOMER, NY (607NewsNow) – There’s a new superintendent of schools in Homer.
On April 11, the Homer Central School District announced that the Board of Education has chosen Jeffrey Evener to succeed Superintendent Thomas Turck, who is set to retire at the end of the academic year. Evener is the district’s current Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

“Mr. Evener has a proven record at Homer as a knowledgeable, approachable, and respected leader,” stated Board President Andrew Bouwens.
Born and raised in the area, Evener previously served as the Village Mayor in Groton and brings 23 years of well-rounded experience in public education to the role, having been a teacher, director of curriculum, director of athletics, middle school principal, and high school principal during his career. He was one of three candidate finalists after a nationwide search was launched in November 2024.
Evener will begin in the role on July 1.
