CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — Swift response from Cortland County firefighters.

Crews extinguished a fire outside of a home in Cortland on Saturday. The flames caused minor damage to a garage.

Elsewhere in the county, authorities say downed power lines are to blame for a brush fire in Homer. It happened on Saturday afternoon on the side of Route 13. The road was closed for a short time as the flames were extinguished.

As the summer approaches, authorities urge people to keep grills and outdoor cooking appliances 15 feet away from all combustibles.
