ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — The city of Ithaca is considering a new proposal on gun safety.

Alderperson Robert Cantelmo describes it as a “common sense policy.”

The Common Council is looking to update part of the city code on gun safety dating back to the mid-1970s. Cantelmo, who’s also the Democratic candidate for mayor of Ithaca, adds violation would mean a civil penalty.

A vote is planned for the Common Council’s meeting in June.
