ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — TCAT and the UAW have reached an agreement.
After months of discussion about a new 3-year contract for the transit agency’s drivers and mechanics, the two sides agreed Saturday on a tentative deal.
“We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the UAW Local 2300 bargaining team, and our employees who remain committed to providing safe and reliable transit for the community,” TCAT General Manager Matthew Rosenbloom-Jones said in a joint news release. “We value the vital role our workforce plays in keeping Tompkins County moving and are pleased to have reached an understanding that allows us to continue serving our riders.”
“Our members play a crucial role in keeping the community connected, and we are proud of the work we do every day,” UAW TCAT Chairperson Brandon Chamblee said. “We are encouraged by the progress we’ve made at the bargaining table and remain dedicated to ensuring a fair and equitable future for TCAT workers.”
The tentative deal comes after union members voted earlier this month to authorize a strike, which has now seemingly been averted. It requires approval from UAW Local 2300 members, though a voting date hasn’t been publicly announced.
