ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — The National Weather Service is warning about wildfires.
Tompkins County is at an elevated risk of wildfire spread until 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 because of a combination of dry and windy conditions.
“Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter ignite, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly,” the National Weather Service said.
In November, eight to 10 acres of land in Lansing was scorched because of a large brush fire. A 2-month burn ban begins Sunday across New York.
