ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — TCAT workers will soon vote on a strike.

UAW Local 2300 says a strike authorization vote will happen tomorrow, March 11 and Wednesday, March 12. Union leaders say the latest deal from TCAT doesn’t include a cost-of-living adjustment, and that some employees would earn less than they did in 2019 when adjusted for inflation.

Recently, TCAT General Manager Matthew Rosenbloom-Jones told WHCU about their latest proposal on the table:

“Currently, our proposal to the UAW would put the starting wage for a bus operator at $26.94 an hour, the highest of any upstate public transit system.  Mechanics would see their starting wage increase to $28.25 an hour, the second highest for an upstate public transit system.  Progression to top wage rate has been shortened from ten years to three, and top rates would be at or above the top rates of every other public transit system in upstate New York.”

Voting takes place tomorrow from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. at TCAT’s offices.
