ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A road construction project is set to kick off in Ithaca.

Contracted crews have begun prepping for an overhaul of the section of East State Street running from Seneca Way to Mitchell Street. Officials say one lane will be maintained in both directions with lane shifts to the south side of the street. Motorists should expect delays and consider using alternate routes for the duration of the project. The north side sidewalk will be detoured to the south side. Officials say approximately five parking spaces on the south side of the street across from Schuyler Place will be removed to allow for the work.

More traffic control plans are expected as the project moves from phase to phase. In addition to milling and paving, crews will replace curbing, install new drainage, repair existing infrastructure, replace a retaining wall on the north side of the street, make all sidewalks ADA compliant, and make the outbound bus stops better.

Anyone with any questions should direct them to the City of Ithaca Department of Public Works. The project is expected to wrap up on August 18, 2023.
