CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Truxton man is facing charges after trying to cash a stolen check for over $900.
Authorities say Matthew Clark tried to cash the check with a fake name at NBT bank on Main Street Tuesday, May 9, but the teller spotted it. Clark was stopped by Cortland Police shortly after and arrested. Clark allegedly had a small amount of narcotics on him at the time of his arrest.
Investigation shows the check belonged to a local business Clark previously worked for. Several other checks missing from the business have been cashed in locations outside the City of Cortland. Officials say those investigations are ongoing.
Clark is charged with felonies of possession of a forged instrument, possession of stolen property, and identity theft. He is additionally charged with misdemeanors of possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. Clark will appear in City Court at a later date.
