ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Ithaca is still a sanctuary city.
The Common Council unanimously agreed last night to reaffirm a status first declared in 2017. For Alderperson Tiffany Kumar, the resolution is very personal.
Alderperson Pierre Saint Perez added the resolution comes with limitations.
Wednesday’s vote was part of the consent agenda, which was swiftly approved. It also follows the arrest last Thursday of Mexican resident Jesus Romero-Fernandez, who was apprehended by ICE agents in Ithaca.
