ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – A familiar face will lead the Tompkins County Legislature in 2025.

On January 7, the Legislature had its first meeting of the New Year, and the first order of business was to choose a new chair and vice chair. Legislator Veronica Pillar nominated Dan Klein, which was seconded by Legislator Randy Brown.

The district 7 representative Klein, now in his twelfth year of service, was unanimously chosen by his colleagues. He reiterated what he said when he was elected as chair last year.

“My goal is to live up to your expectations, those who voted for me,” said Klein. “So, thank you, thank you.”

There were no other nominations for chair.

The Legislature, now led by Klein, turned its focus to electing a vice chair.

Legislator Travis Brooks spoke out first in nominating district 13 representative Greg Mezey as second-in-command, which was seconded by Legislator Amanda Champion. It was also the only nomination.

Mezey was elected by a 12-2 vote. He takes over for Legislator Shawna Black, who along with Legislator Susan Currie, were the lone votes of opposition to his appointment.
