WASHINGTON, DC (607NewsNow) — The new Congressional session starts today.

Congressman-elect Josh Riley will be sworn in during a ceremony that starts at noon. Riley, who narrowly defeated Marc Molinaro in November, will represent the 19th Congressional district. John Mannion, who beat Brandon Williams, gets sworn in to represent the 22nd Congressional district. The two Democrats are replacing incumbent Republicans.

Once the ceremony concludes, the 119th Congress will be tasked with electing a new Speaker of the House. The current House Speaker, Rep. Mike Johnson, was elected in 2023 and seeks a full 2-year term. Republicans won control of Congress during the November elections.
