DANBY, NY (607NewsNow) – In 2025, the Town of Danby will overhaul part of its water system.
Crews will construct a sanitary sewer collection system and two package membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment plants to replace inadequate septic systems. The town has received a $4.6 million state water quality improvement grant, which is 75% of the project cost according to Town Supervisor Joel Gagnon.
Gagnon says more work needs to be done to secure the remaining balance of the project cost. He called the funding thrilling and “a step forward for the town.”
Officials say the new system will reduce phosphorus entering Cayuga Lake, which could help reduce harmful algal blooms.
A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that the project cost was 100% covered.
