DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – A road in the town of Dryden could see a lower speed limit in the New Year.
The Town Board recently submitted a request to the Regional Office of the New York State Department of Transportation to reduce the speed limit from 55 to 45. Tompkins County Highway Director Jeff Smith signed off on the request. He says they should hear back from the State DOT sometime in the first quarter.

Smith previously said once the request is submitted, the DOT will conduct a speed limit study. It could result in no change, the requested change, or an even larger reduction in the speed limit.

Calls to reduce the speed on West Dryden Road came after a fatal crash in October at the intersection of West Dryden and Sheldon Roads.
