OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) – Tioga County reports an increase in whooping cough.
On Monday, officials issued a public health advisory saying there have been multiple positive cases across the county and New York State recently. It follows a reported rise earlier this year in Tioga County. With early symptoms like other common respiratory illnesses, the health department recommends staying home for school or work if you get sick to reduce transmission. Whooping cough is especially dangerous for small children and people with weak immune systems.
Additionally, health officials remind you to stay current on vaccinations, which can drastically reduce the severity of symptoms. You can learn more about whooping cough (Pertussis) here.
