ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Ithaca Police Department is without a permanent, or interim, police chief.

The Ithaca Voice reports John Joly, IPD’s Acting Chief since April 2021, has taken an indefinite personal leave and is pursuing legal action against the City of Ithaca. Joly claims he was subjected to a ‘hostile work environment.’

Mayor Laura Lewis recommended Joly be appointed as Chief last year, but later withdrew her nomination after objections from common council.
