ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – City leaders are mulling whether to fund a study about preserving the Ithaca Gun smokestack.
Last month, a community survey was sent out to gauge support for, or opposition to, the landmark’s preservation. Those results were shared at this week’s Planning and Economic Development Committee (PEDC) meeting.
In Tompkins County, 93% of respondents are in favor of preservation. In the City of Ithaca, 81% of respondents are in favor of preservation. Despite the results, some PEDC members are still opposed. They’ll vote on whether to fund the study, which would determine if and how the smokestack could be preserved, next month.
