ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — Firefighters from Tompkins County are headed out of town.
Crews from departments in Dryden, Varna, McLean, and Enfield are helping fight a fire in Orange County. According to the Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control activated the fire mobilization and mutual aid plan.
The wildfire has reportedly spread across 2,500 acres.
Meantime, Gov. Hochul has signed a 30-day statewide ban on outdoor burning. “I’m asking everyone to comply with this until further notice,” Hochul said. “What that means is to completely avoid outdoor burning. Don’t leave any campfires, but you should not have campfires in the first place. So don’t leave them unattended, but don’t have them. Exercise extreme caution with outdoor grills and report fires immediately.”
Similar temporary bans are active in Tompkins, Cortland, and Tioga counties.
