CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Cortland woman has been arrested after an investigation into alleged theft.

Cortland Police received a complaint earlier this year in January that a woman who worked as a cleaner and helper was stealing from a client in a home on East Avenue. Investigators say Junaidah Sweeney took checks from the client, forged them, and cashed them, taking more than $4,000. Authorities say the crimes were committed between January 18, 2023, and March 7, 2023.

Sweeney was arrested Friday, April 14, 2023, and is charged with felonies of grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument. Sweeney is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on May 17, 2023.
