ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — A person is recovering after falling into a gorge.

The Ithaca Fire Department was called around 1:10 Sunday morning where the unidentified person was spotted in the Fall Creek gorge. Crews stabilized the person and used a basket to pull them out of the gorge. Once on the ground, they were airlifted to a trauma center for continued treatment of unknown injuries.

Hours later, IFD was called back to the Fall Creek gorge. According to the Ithaca Police Department, a body was discovered in the gorge around 10:30 p.m. “Firefighters packaged the
person in a basket and used rope systems to recover them from the gorge,” IFD’s public information officer Jim Wheal said. He notes the recovery took “about three hours to accomplish.”
