ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — On October 30th at the Hotel Ithaca from 9 a.m. to noon, Tompkins County Workforce Development and The Finger Lakes Independence Center are hosting the 28th Annual World of Skills Job Fair.
The fair itself features over thirty different employers including but not limited to Racker, Cornell University, Therm, Hospicare, TST BOCES, and Ithaca College. Given the plethora of employers that attend, there are a variety of backgrounds and options to explore.
“All of the spaces are occupied with many employers coming back each year because they’re happy with the outcome of the fair,” says Chief Operations and Corporate Compliance Officer of the Finger Lakes Independence Center Tracy Decker.
In addition to the employer booths, there are also tables set up for people to receive more information and get connected with resources such as getting help with resumes, learning more about job application processes, and more.
The steering committee that plans the fair has representatives from various employers in the area that participate in the event, helping The Finger Lakes Independence Center and Tompkins County Workforce Development to work with them in filling in gaps in employment for the companies themselves as well as jobseekers.
Open to anyone looking for a job or wanting a career change, the fair serves to connect people in the community with businesses that they might not have considered otherwise.
“Everybody is welcome and encouraged to come and look around and get to know some of the employers, even if they already have a job. We want to give jobseekers the opportunity to explore what’s out there for them in the community and receive as much help as they need in taking the next step in their career.”
