ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — The head of Cornell is reflecting on the recent labor strike.
In his State of the University address on Friday, Interim President Michael Kotlikoff called the United Auto Workers’ strike “contentious.” He said it was settled with respect for staff.
Kotlikoff said there’s a “renewed investment” in employees who work in residence halls and dining rooms. Unionized staff returned to work in early September after a 15-day stoppage.

Kotlikoff’s address also focused on free speech. He said Cornell must continue to respect the right to speak freely, “even when that speech offends.”
Next week, the university will host controversial political commentator Ben Shapiro.
