ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Yard waste collection in the City of Ithaca is set to begin.
Curbside collection will kick off Monday, April 10, 2023, and run until snow falls or November 30. Yard waste will be collected on weeks opposite of recycling pickup. Tags are required for each bag, bundle, or can for collection costs.
Yard waste tags are available at City Hall, Agway, all GreenStar locations, P&C Fresh, the Cornell Campus Store, the West Buffalo Street Dandy Mart, Tops, and Wegmans. The cost is $9.00 for a sheet of six.
Instructions:
- All yard waste must be placed at the curb the night before collection day
- Collection begins at 4:00 a.m.
- Only natural materials like grass, leaves, branches, and brush from the resident’s property is considered yard waste. Anything brought in from outside city limits is considered illegal dumping
- Yard waste may be placed in open trash cans without lids, but bio-degradable, recyclable paper leaf or lawn bags are preferred. Plastic bags will not be accepted as a container for yard waste collection. Any plastic bags rejected and left at the curb will be subject to a trash collection fee of $20 plus the weight of the bags
- All brush must be tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet in length
- Branches must not exceed 2 inches in diameter
- No bundle, container, or bag may exceed 50 pounds
