ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – An Ithaca woman has been arrested in connection to several burglary complaints at Cornell University.
Officers from the Ithaca Police Department (IPD) responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Chestnut Street around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a tip that a suspect was staying there. 39-year-old Diamond Westfield was located and taken into custody without incident. Westfield was charged with felony burglary. Westfield also faces three additional felony burglary charges and three misdemeanors, including assault, from IPD for unrelated crimes. The Cornell University Police Department (CUPD) also charged Westfield with two counts of felony burglary. Westfield was remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
IPD and CUPD executed a subsequent search warrant of the apartment and located several items reported stolen. During the search, IPD found and arrested another woman, 33-year-old Sheryl Leckey, of Ithaca, for active warrants from unrelated crimes. Leckey will face charges of felony burglary and three misdemeanors, including assault, in Ithaca City Court at a later date.
