ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — A temporary budget measure in Albany has passed, which will fund governmental operations for the next week.
It will remain active until April 10. Governor Hochul and lawmakers have not agreed on key issues in the budget, including changes to bail reform laws. The deadline to pass the 2023 to 2024 state budget was Friday. The new fiscal year began Saturday. Hochul says she’s been negotiating “in good faith with the legislature, but it is clear there is more work to be done before we reach an agreement.”
Meanwhile, Assembly Minority Leader Will Barlcay says passing the budget extender “signals to the rest of New York that One-Party Rule is not working. The inability to meet the April 1 deadline illustrates the Albany dysfunction that people have come to expect.”
