ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Community Justice Center (CJC) in Ithaca is looking for volunteers to join its Advisory Board.
Seven members of the public are needed to serve for two-year terms on the board. The CJC is looking for interested candidates who have experience in community engagement, trust building, addressing racial bias, or equity in public safety. The CJC Advisory Board will also include local public safety and criminal justice professionals.
Together they will advise the Tompkins County Legislature and Ithaca Common Council on implementing Reimagining Public Safety plans. Members will be required to meet once a month plus attend additional community engagement activities.
“We know the community is looking for progress and transparency when it comes to Reimagining Public Safety, this is your opportunity to step up and into a role where you can contribute to our success,” said CJC Project Director Monalita Smiley. “We’re looking for people who have lived this, and who know what difference we need to make in policing and the criminal justice system.”
Applications are due April 25, 2023.
