CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A pre-pandemic public service tradition is returning at SUNY Cortland.

More than 400 volunteers, including Red Dragon students, sports teams and Greek organizations, will venture out into Cortland next month to clean, paint, and fulfill any other requests received by community members. It’s called The Big Event. It started as a national movement on college campuses in 1982. SUNY Cortland started in 2015 and last held the event in 2019.

According to the school, the return of The Big Event was spearheaded by the Student Government Association. Volunteers will report to Corey Union at 9:00 a.m. on April 23 before heading out into the community and performing duties until 2:00 p.m.
