CORTLAND, NY (CortacaToday) — Cortland County is applying for forestry funding.

The money would help the Soil and Water Conservation District plant trees and install fencing near the Cortland Waterworks building. The goal would be to keep deer away.

Officials say the fencing would be moved to a different location once the trees are large enough.

In related news, the Cortland County Health Department hopes to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funding would help address environmental health and safety hazards.

Officials expect to hear back about the grant later this year.
